Tell President Obama – Remove Abortion Funding Restrictions
Urge President Obama to Eliminate Abortion Funding Restrictions from his Fiscal Year 2017 Budget
For far too long, anti-choice politicians have interfered in reproductive health decisions by banning insurance coverage for abortion care. These bans push safe and affordable abortion care out of reach for those struggling to make ends meet.
This falls hardest on those who already face significant barriers to quality health care, such as low-income women, immigrant women, young women, women of color, and transgender and gender-nonconforming people.
In fact, restricting Medicaid coverage of abortion forces one in four poor women seeking abortion services to carry her pregnancy to term.
A movement led by people of color, young people, and reproductive and economic justice advocates is rising up against these restrictions. Now, we’re calling on President Obama to take a bold stand against the Hyde Amendment and related abortion funding restrictions by eliminating them from his Fiscal Year 2017 budget.
The impact of abortion insurance bans can have devastating effects on a woman and her family’s economic future. A recent study found that a woman who seeks but is denied abortion care is more likely to fall into poverty than a woman who is able to get the care she needs.
When people can plan if and when to have children, it’s good for them and for society as a whole. By removing abortion funding restrictions from his FY 2017 budget, President Obama would help ensure that every woman would be able to get safe and affordable abortion care if and when she needs it.
Take a bold stand for women and families by eliminating all abortion coverage restrictions in your FY 2017 budget. When it comes to the most important decisions in life, such as whether to become a parent, it is vital that a woman is able to consider all the options available to her, however much she earns or is insured.
